Harvest to Table

This is one of the more pragmatic sites I've had the opportunity to come across lately, in regards to gardening that is. Harvest to Table: http://www.harvestwizard.com/ takes you from seed to garden, to growing, and ultimately to the table. The articles are well written, have a no-nonsense attitude, and is a must for anyone beginning to garden, or for seasoned gardeners who need a refresher course. In other words, it's the "how-to" website of gardening, and one of the best ones I've visited lately.

Seedlings Are Us!

Typically, you should begin tomato, cucumber, squashes and that sort of plant, 6-8 weeks before planting. We currently have an array of 216 different tomato, cucumber, pepper and Malabar Spinach plants starting in our kitchen. They begin in covered containers, using expandable coins, then are placed on a heat mat, where they stay for 2 weeks. Then, they're transplanted to larger soil filled pots, where they will grow until planted either in the raised beds, or the in the greenhouse.

From what we're hearing this year, seeds are becoming as rare as 401Ks, so, listed below are several seed companies that have always served us well, good quantities for the price, quality seeds, and in the case of Rareseeds.com, offer a ton of heirloom varieties rarely seen elsewhere.

Rareseeds.com - Heirloom seeds, and a great selection of tomato and peppers not seen elsewhere
Richters.com - Culinary & Medicinal Herb seeds, vegetable seeds, and some flower seeds
Mainstreetseedandsupply.com - Great selection of organic and regular seeds, good quality, and great quantity for the price
